Intermediate

Level 2 and 3 classes are typically called “Lindy Hop 2” and “Lindy Hop 3”, and usually have a theme associated with each series. Level 2 assumes you have taken a minimum of 12 to 15 hours of progressive, regular instruction in Lindy Hop over the past two years (ie, completed Level 1 classes). Level 3 assumes you have taken 24-30 hours of instruction, which may include workshops, level 2 classes, and instruction in other dance scenes. Especially at level 3, knowledge and enthusiasm does not necessarily equate to your skill level: as such, we level-check all Level 3 students.

At this stage, we encourage you to begin “cross training” in related dances such as Solo Jazz, African, Balboa, Tap, Blues, and Charleston in order to further your skills as a Lindy Hopper and Swing Dancer. Also, we want you to please study your fundamentals of Lindy Hop, such as the swing out, so that you can do it well at both faster tempos of 220+ beats-per-minute and slow tempos of 100bpm.

Level 2 Topics

Beginner-Intermediate to Intermediate

  • Charleston (X-hand, Tandem)
  • Blues and Slow Lindy
  • Solo Jazz
  • Competition and Show
  • Fast Dancing and Jam Circles
  • Improvising
  • Advanced Fundamentals

The Level 2 classes are designed to build off the framework set in level 1. While our level 1 classes are considered basic introductory, level 2 helps to refine and shape your dancing as a lindy hopper. Better connection, more efficient movement, increased balance, improved posture, and better lead/follow skills will be the focus here.

From Level 2 to Level 3

At this point in your dancing, it may be more beneficial for you to start exploring other ways to improve in preparation for Level 3 and onward. While “the gate is wide open” for Level 2 entry, we level check and audition level 3+ students. Here are things to consider:

  • Taking the level 1 courses as a volunteer
  • Retake the level 2 classes
  • Book a private lesson or two for feedback
  • Social dance regularly to reinforce good, natural lead/follow skills
  • Practice and rehearse to reinforce material you’ve learned

Level 3 Topics

Intermediate to Intermediate-Advanced

The Level 3 classes are very diverse and are typically left up to the discretion of the instructors. Consider that the more your learn about Lindy Hop, you realize how HUGE and DIVERSE this dance really is!

All class topics and content are by “instructor’s choice”, and taught by our veteran dance instructors.
