Beginner. House! Danced to a variety of electronic, urban, funk, and house music, it’s a groovy and fun type of street dance and urban dance style that came out of the nightclubs in the 1980s and 90s. It's current and ever evolving. Often confused with hip-hop and break dancing, you’ve probably seen it. Our urban dances are currently instructed by Thato X. Thato has trained in many styles of House and Hip-Hop dance from popping, tutting, house, locking and break dancing. As one of the original members of Edmonton’s own White Chocolate Dance crew, Thato has opened and performed for artists such as: Chris Brown, Ludacris, Ne-Yo, Ashanti, Ginuwine, Sean Paul, Kreesha Turner, The Game, Nelly Furtado, Obie Trice, 112, Boyz II Men, Fabolous, K-Ci & JoJo, Chingy, Sean Desmond, Massari, Gary Beals, Rochester, and Snoop Dogg!
Sprung Hardwood Floors + AC: We have a great facility with unique sprung hardwood floors, and AC! It is subtle, but if you dance on these floors for more than an hour versus most other dance floors, your joins and muscles will definitely appreciate it! The air conditioning certainly helps, especially when it gets warm outside.
Instructors Choice: Each class is individually designed by the instructors, based on the make-up of the class and what was not covered or what needs to be reviewed. Ie, they do not work off a curriculum

The level continues here from the previous part! Note: We do not recommend beginners to start mid-semester, unless you have done tap before, or have taken other dance forms. If you do join, just know that they move at a faster pace!

Tap Shoes: Tap Shoes are NOT required! Many students decide to get tap shoes eventually, but when you are first starting out, you can make-do with any shoe. Shoes that don't stick and have a harder sole made of leather or hard rubber usually work quite well. When you are ready for tap shoes, you can checkout a variety of used and new tap shoes at Onstage, which is located right behind Sugar Swing Ballroom
Tap Shoe Maintenance: PLEASE maintain your tap shoes and ensure there are no loose screws or sharp edges, to ensure our floor finish stays strong. If you are unsure, chat with our instructors at class!
